DC Food Stamp Calculator (District of Columbia SNAP)
The District’s Department of Human Services runs SNAP for all of DC, with applications at District Direct. DC is not a state, but SNAP treats it like one: 48-state benefit levels, a 200% gross limit ($4,554 for three) and no asset test. A two-person household can get up to $562.

High rent, uncapped for seniors
DC rents push most working households to the $769 shelter cap. For older or disabled residents, though, there is no cap. A senior couple with $1,600 in Social Security, $1,600 rent, electric and water bills and $80 of medical costs would get about $544.
DC’s allowances shown — $384 heating and cooling, $348 basic, $90 for one utility — are USDA’s October 2025 figures.
How DHS runs it
Benefits load on the 1st through the 10th by the first letter of your last name. DC does not disqualify people with drug felony convictions, deducts child support you pay, and gives transitional benefits to families leaving TANF. Residents with no earnings who are 60+ or disabled can use the elderly simplified application.
DC’s FY2025 payment error rate was 18.66%; with 1.5 times that above 20%, the District’s cost share is delayed to FY2029. No time-limit waiver is in effect for DC adults as of October 1, 2026.
