Basic Food · FY2027
Washington Basic Food Calculator (SNAP)
Washington calls SNAP Basic Food, run by the Department of Social and Health Services; you apply at Washington Connection and use an EBT QUEST card. The gross limit is 200% of poverty — $2,660 for one person — with no asset test. One person can receive up to $306.

SSI recipients
Washington runs a standard Combined Application Project with Social Security, so many SSI recipients who live alone are enrolled with a simplified process. A Spokane resident on disability benefits of $950 a month and paying $900 rent plus heat would get about $306.
Incentives, interviews and timing
In 2023 USDA selected Washington for an electronic healthy-incentives pilot run through its EBT system at participating retailers. The state offers on-demand interviews and telephone signatures, excludes child support you pay from income, pays transitional benefits, and does not disqualify past drug felonies. Benefits are issued from the 1st to the 20th. Washington’s FY2025 payment error rate was 6.98%, the 5% cost-share tier.
Washington, Idaho or Oregon?
Where you live decides the rules, not where you shop. A family of three just across the Idaho line faces a $2,960 gross limit and a $5,000 asset test; in Washington the line is $4,554 and savings do not count. Oregon matches Washington’s 200% limit. Washington certifies most Basic Food households for 12 months under simplified reporting, so between renewals you report only if income rises above the gross limit.
