Portland rents
A Portland couple earning $2,300 with $1,350 rent plus heat reaches the shelter cap and would get about $305. Oregon’s phone-only standard, $81 in USDA’s October 2025 table, is unusually high, which helps renters whose other utilities are included in rent.
Oregon’s policy choices
Oregon excludes child support you pay from income, uses a standard medical deduction for older and disabled members, accepts telephone signatures, pays transitional benefits and does not disqualify past drug felonies. Some areas had a partial time-limit waiver for adults 18–64 on October 1, 2026. Deposits arrive between the 1st and 9th by the last digit of the Social Security number.
Oregon’s FY2025 payment error rate was 14.14%; with 1.5 times that above 20%, the 2025 law delays the state’s cost share to FY2029.
Getting help in Oregon
Besides the SNAP information line, Oregon lists 211 as a way to find local help applying. Most Oregon households are certified for 12 or 24 months under a mix of simplified and change reporting. California and Washington use the same 200% gross limit as Oregon; Idaho, to the east, is far stricter at $2,345 for two plus a $5,000 asset limit.
