Las Vegas rent and the cap
A couple in Las Vegas earning $2,100 with $1,300 rent and a power bill for air conditioning reaches the $769 shelter cap and would get about $353. Nevada’s allowances in USDA’s October 2025 table are $446 for heating or cooling and $361 for other utilities.
Nevada’s rules at a glance
- Benefits: 1st–10th of the month, by the last digit of the birth year.
- Reporting: simplified plus change reporting; certifications of six or twelve months.
- Time limit: some areas had a partial waiver for adults 18–64 on October 1, 2026.
- Purchases: an approved restriction on candy and sugar-sweetened beverages has a target date of February 1, 2028 — later than any other state’s.
- Drug felonies: no disqualification.
Nevada’s FY2025 payment error rate was 6.22%, in the 5% cost-share tier from FY2028.
Nevada next to California and Utah
California and Arizona share Nevada’s 200% limit and lack of an asset test. Utah does not: there a family of three must stay under $2,960 and $3,000 in countable assets. Nevada does not disqualify anyone for a past drug felony, and its partial time-limit waiver covers only some areas, so check your county.
