Larger families
For bigger households the standard deduction grows with size: $268 for five and $308 for six or more. A Provo family of five earning $3,300 with $1,250 rent plus heat and modest savings would get about $678.
Three payment days and a soft drink rule
Utah pays on just three dates — the 5th, 11th or 15th — by the first letter of your last name. Since January 1, 2026 Utah SNAP cannot buy soft drinks. Employment and training is mandatory for some recipients, interviews can be done on demand, and past drug felonies do not disqualify. Utah’s FY2025 payment error rate was 5.54%, low enough for a 0% state share under the 2025 law.
The asset test in practice
Utah households must have countable resources under $3,000, or $4,750 if a member is 60+ or disabled. Your home and retirement savings are excluded. Every state around Utah except Wyoming uses broad-based eligibility, so a family moving in from Arizona, Colorado or Nevada may meet a stricter test here than they had before. Utah certifies most cases for six or twelve months.
