Colorado’s SNAP is administered county by county under the Department of Human Services and applied for through the PEAK portal. At 200% of poverty, a single person can earn up to $2,660 and a family of four $5,500, with no asset test. The maximum for one person is $306.

What estimates leave out

The soda ban that didn’t happen

USDA approved Colorado to stop SNAP purchases of soft drinks, but on June 22, 2026 the federal district court in Washington, D.C. (Aragon v. Rollins) vacated that approval and barred implementation. As of our check, soft drinks remain an eligible purchase in Colorado.

For older Coloradans

Colorado uses a standard medical deduction and has a waiver that can skip the recertification interview for elderly and disabled households. A Denver retiree living alone on $1,500 of Social Security with $1,100 rent plus heat and $120 in medical bills works out to about $275; with no shelter cap for seniors, the full housing cost counts. That uses Colorado’s $594 heating allowance from October 2025 — the October 2026 figure was not yet published where we could check.

Benefits post on the 1st through 10th by the last digit of your Social Security number. Colorado excludes child support you pay from income and pays transitional benefits to families leaving cash aid. Its FY2025 error rate was 10.09%.
