Kansas Food Stamp Calculator

Kansas is one of seven states that do not use broad-based categorical eligibility, so the Department for Children and Families applies the federal tests to everyone: gross income at or under $2,960 for three, net income at or under $2,277, and countable assets under $3,000 ($4,750 with someone 60+ or disabled). The maximum for three is $808.

What estimates leave out

Savings count here

Because the asset test applies, the calculator will say “depends on the asset test” until you enter your cash and bank balances. Your home, household goods and most retirement accounts do not count. A Wichita family of three earning $2,500 with $900 rent plus heat, and $1,000 in the bank, would get about $416.

Kansas rules and what is ahead

Kansas makes SNAP employment and training mandatory for some recipients and can waive the recertification interview for elderly and disabled households. USDA approved a restriction on candy and soft drinks with a target date of February 15, 2027. Benefits arrive in the first ten days, by the first letter of your last name. Kansas’s FY2025 payment error rate was 9.44%, the 10% cost-share tier.

Kansas compared with Colorado and Nebraska

Crossing the border changes the rules: Colorado allows $4,554 for three with no asset test, Nebraska $3,757 with a $25,000 liquid-asset cap, while Kansas and Missouri hold to $2,960 and $3,000 in assets. Kansas certifies most households for 12 or 24 months under simplified reporting.
