SNAP · FY2027
Nebraska Food Stamp Calculator
Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services runs SNAP, with applications through ACCESSNebraska. Nebraska’s broad-based rule is unusual on two counts: a 165% gross limit ($3,757 for three) and a $25,000 ceiling on liquid assets — cash, checking and savings. Three people can get up to $808.

Soda first, candy later
Nebraska’s approved restriction comes in two stages: from December 1, 2026 SNAP cannot buy soda, soft drinks or energy drinks, and from March 1, 2027 candy joins the list. Nothing changes about how much you receive.
A typical Omaha case
A family of three earning $2,700 with $900 rent plus heat and a few thousand dollars in savings would qualify and get about $388, using the $615 heating allowance from USDA’s October 2025 table. Nebraska also has a $63 single-utility amount for households paying only one non-heating bill.
Benefits arrive in the first five days of the month by the last digit of the head of household’s Social Security number. Nebraska certifies for six or twelve months, gives transitional benefits to families leaving cash aid, and can skip recertification interviews for elderly and disabled households. With a 5.9% FY2025 error rate, Nebraska would owe no share of benefit costs from FY2028.
