Georgia’s SNAP manual (section 3617) has required third-party verification of all shelter expenses since July 1, 2024, including for Senior SNAP. A lease, a landlord statement or a utility bill in your name is what turns rent into a deduction; without it, your benefit is figured as if you paid nothing. On October 5, 2026 that manual section still listed a $405 heating and cooling allowance and $358 limited allowance — last year’s amounts.

A senior couple in Macon with $1,700 of Social Security, $950 rent plus heat and $140 in medical costs would get about $348. Georgia uses a standard medical deduction for older and disabled households, so ask whether a flat amount beats your receipts.

Programs and timing

DFCS runs Senior SNAP and Transitional SNAP for families leaving cash aid, and offers the elderly simplified application. Deposits land between the 5th and the 23rd based on the last two digits of your ID number. Georgia’s FY2025 payment error rate was 15.21%; because 1.5 times that tops 20%, the state’s new share of benefit costs starts in FY2029 rather than FY2028.
